This just speaks to my belief that there is an ocean of difference between TAKING a photo and MAKING a photo. This is clearly an example of the latter.
“The Beauty of an Ugly Addiction” is Photographer Frieke Janssens’ photographic response to nicotine addiction and new smoking laws. In her stark and impossible to ignore series, she asks “does this ban treat adults like children who can’t willfully decide whether or not to partake in this horribly harmful habit?"
Regardless of where you stand on the issue, these photos remind us of how much power and information an image can communicate.
